Syvia Delaney Chappell

June 15, 1940 — February 16, 2024

Sylvia Delancey Chappell, 83, passed away on Friday, February 16, 2024. After a long courageous battle with leukemia. Everyone who knew Sylvia knew how much she cherished her family, and her Christian faith. Svlvia was always a devoted Wife, Mother, Grandmother, and Great-Grandmother. Along with her parents, She is preceded in death by her husband, Glenn Chappell, her daughter, Deborah Harrel and her brother, Hal Delaney.

Left to cherish her memory is her daughter, Karen Kea (Paul); her grandchildren, Sara Myrick (James), Melissa Kitchen (Dusty), Paul Kea, Jr. (Kate), and six great-grandchildren, Patricia, Abby, and William Myrick, Mackenzie Hardt, Austyn Kea and Jaxson Canty and her sister, Cheryl Puckett.

Sylvia spent over 30 years working for Sussex County Health Department and was very proud of her work and accomplishments. She was instrumental in the development and implementation of the WIC program for Sussex County and felt it was her calling to help women, infants and children to always have access to proper nutrition.

Above all her accomplishments in a life well-lived, Sylvia loved her family the most of all. Whether touring colleges and schools, attending weddings, graduations, sporting events, shopping trips, and traveling adventures, Sylvia always treasured the time she spent with her family.

At Sylvia’s request, the family held a private memorial service at Concord United Methodist Church Cemetery, where Sylvia attended over 40 years. Memorial contributions may be made to Ivor Volunteer Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 228 Ivor, VA 23866.
