Sally G. Velvin

Sally G. Velvin, 81, widow of Edward C. Velvin, Jr., passed away on Wednesday, September 2, 2026 at her home surrounded by family. She was the daughter of the late Henry H. and Mary M. Grizzard and she was also preceded in death by two sisters, Joyce Whitehead and Frances Dixon and a brother, Lawrence Grizzard.

Sally is survived by her son, Chris Velvin, Sr. daughter, Carol Grizzard (Carl); six grandchildren, Brandon Grizzard (Samantha), David Grizzard (Jo-Jo), Megan Wilson, Chris Velvin, Jr., Dawn Velvin and Brooke Velvin (Eric); twelve great-grandchildren; her sister, ‘Baby” Woodruff and a number of nieces and nephews.

Her funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Friday, September 4 at Owen Funeral Home, 303 S. Halifax Rd, Jarratt, Virginia. Interment will follow at Greensville Memorial Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Adams Grove Baptist Church, 24465 Adams Grove Rd, Emporia, Virginia 23847.
