Ronald E. "Ron" Ellerson Gibson

Ronald Ellerson “Ron” Gibson, 83 of Emporia, Virginia passed away on June 3, 2025. Ron was born in Brunswick County in 1941. He was preceded in death by his parents William Cullen and Virginia Lewis Gibson; as well as eight siblings, Willie Virginia “Dill” Truesdale, Frances Colleen “Friss” Shephard, William Douglas Gibson, Charles Roger Gibson, John Wesley Gibson, Lillian Gail Strickland, Carlton Warren Gibson and David Ross “Chunk” Gibson.

Ron is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Lois Harrison Gibson, three sons, Ronald Wade “Pete” Gibson (Bonnie) of Youngsville, NC, Brian Ellerson Gibson of Raleigh, NC, Glen Stuart Gibson of Monroe, LA and his adored grandson son Harrison Blake Gibson of Greenville, NC. He leaves two sisters, Martha Raye Gibson and Judith Carol Coleman (David) as well as numerous nieces and nephews who loved him dearly. Ron had a special friend and a person he could always count on, Glenn F. Carbitt.

Ron retired after 37 years at Georgia Pacific. A strong and vocal conservative, he had a passion for bass fishing and was a member of Meherrin Bass Masters Club. Ron loved sports, especially NASCAR, college baseball and was very involved back in the day with his boys' sports, including coaching for many years. Ron was always willing to give a helping hand and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. He loved his church and church family.

The funeral service will be held 11 AM Tuesday, June 10 at Calvary Baptist Church with interment at Greensville Memorial Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Calvary Baptist Church, 310 N. Main Street, Emporia, VA 23847.
