Pattie Mayes Upton

Mrs. Pattie Mayes Upton, 87, passed away on Wednesday, August 12, 2026.

She was the daughter of the late Lewis and Elaine Mayes and she was also preceded in death by a son, Walter Upton; a daughter, Sylvia Norris; sister, Dorothy “Dottie” Mayes; and two brothers, Wamer Mayes Hugh Mayes and wife Carol.

Pattie is survived by her son, Ted Upton, Jr. (Beverly); son-in-law, John Norris; sister-in-law, Kathleen Mayes; devoted friend, Frank Baxter; five grandchildren, Joshua Robert Norris (Lindsey), Tara-Leigh Norris, Lindsey Upton Lichtenstein (Rubin), Tracy Upton Pero (Daniel) and Patricia Upton; six great-grandchildren, Aiden Lichtenstein, Sylas Lichtenstein, Bethany Norris, Jamison Norris, Archer Norris and Artemus Pero; and special friend whom she considered as an “adopted son”, Marvin Hebb (Marcia) and their family.

Pattie was a member of Claremont Baptist Church where she served as Sunday School teacher and treasurer for many years. She worked as an accountant for many years at several businesses including Waverly Furniture, Waverly Drug Store and Ted Upton Enterprises. Spending time with her family and friends brought her the greatest joy.

The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Thursday, August 13 at Owen Funeral Home, 303 S. Halifax Rd, Jarratt, Virginia where the funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Friday, August 14. Interment will follow at 1 p.m. at Crestview Memorial Park in South Hill, Virginia.
