Michael T. “Mike” Jones, 77, of Purdy, VA, passed away peacefully in his home at River’s Edge Family Farm on the banks of the Nottoway River, surrounded by his family on June 10, 2025. He is survived by Patricia H. “Pat” Jones, his loving and devoted wife of 49 years.
Mike wore the title of “Pop” and “PawPaw” very proudly. His four children were among his greatest accomplishments, and their spouses became his own. He is survived by two sons, Andy Jones (Lexi) and Travis Jones (Meaghan); and two daughters, Kelly Corcoran (Bryan) and Casey Valiente (Scott). His ten grandchildren were some of his most prized possessions and brought him the greatest joy. Mason, Levi, and Silas Jones; Grayson and Aubrey Jones, Michael and Austin Corcoran, Tyler, Marc, and Maria Valiente. He is also survived by two sisters, Patsy Barnes (Joe) and Debbie Coles (Bob); brother, Larry Jones; special cousin, Bill Jones (Coleen); brother-in-law, Steve Huffman and sister-in-law, Susan Tredway. He also has many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends that will truly miss him. Mike was preceeded in death, by his parents, Tom and Jeanette Jones; brother, Jimmy Jones, Sr. and nephew Jimmy Jones, Jr.
Mike was a lifetime member of Grace Church, in Purdy, VA and was a 1969 graduate of Virginia Tech. He proudly served in the U.S. Army, as Sargeant for 2 years, during Vietnam Era. He spent his entire career, as a District Conservationist with USDA/Natural Resources Conservation Service. Mike was a volunteer with EGRA for 20 years and founding member of Poplar Mount Hunt Club.
Mike was a man who loved all things in nature and found great joy in being able to share its beauty and secrets with so many. His passion was teaching both children and adults the fascinations of God’s world. Mike leaves a lasting legacy in the community through his kindness, sense of humor, and one-liners.
The family would like to thank Joyce Lynch, for her special guidance, devotion, care and love shown to them and Mike during his final weeks.
A Celebration of Life for Mike will be held Monday, June 16th at 2PM at Grace Church, 9986 Purdy Rd in Jarratt, VA. Family will receive guests in the church yard prior to the service, beginning at 12:30PM. Casual dress is requested.
