Jerry B. Bailey

Mr. Jerry B. Bailey, 75, of Emporia, passed away on Thursday, January 23, 2025. He was preceded in death by his mother, Emma Bailey; one sister, Mamie Faye Williams, a brother, Ernest Bailey and also a brother-in-law, Frank Ogletree.

Jerry was a devoted and hard working family man. He was an outgoing person who it seemed never met a stranger and was always willing to lend a helping hand to others. A devoted family man who took pride in taking care of his home and family. Jerry especially loved being outdoors, enjoying fishing and hunting for and collecting arrowheads.

He was a retired employee of what is now Verizon, having worked for GTE and Contel. After his career with the phone company, Jerry worked  for Greensville County in maintenance and as a monitor at the county collection sites for several years.

Jerry is survived by his wife of 43 years, Marie Bailey, daughter, Crystal Bailey Council (Brandon); son, Derek Bailey; grandson, Jackson Council; granddaughter, Bailey Council, sister, Irene Ogletree; brother, Cliff Bailey (Louise); sister-in-law, Peggy Bailey and a number of nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, February 18 at Round Hill Cemetery.
