Denise Matthews Davis

Denise Davis, 67, of Skippers, passed away Saturday, February 21, 2026. She retired from the food service industry with the Virginia Department of Corrections. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gary Davis; parents, Perry and Goldie Matthews; and sister, Connie Grizzard.

Left to cherish her memories are her daughter, Tanya Clary (Al); son, GW Davis (Megan); step-daughter, Tracy Sison; grandchildren, Hannah and Luca Davis; brothers, Ben Matthews and Edward Matthews (Janice); sister, Claudia Matthews; numerous nieces, nephews, friends, her sports families and her beloved canine companions Spanky and Kylee.

Denise will be remembered for her infectious smile and warm laughter, which brought joy to everyone around her. She had a deep love for sports, whether she was cheering on professional teams, attending local games with her children and grandchildren, or actively participating in sports herself. Her passion for the game and her vibrant spirit touched the hearts of all who knew her.

The family will receive friends 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, February 24 at Owen Funeral Home, 303 S. Halifax Rd. Jarratt, Virginia 23867 where the funeral service will be held Wednesday, February 25 at 2 p.m. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggest memorial contributions be made to Greensville Volunteer Fire Department 209 Halifax St Emporia, Virginia 23847.
