Arthur "Art" J. Hinkle

Mr. Arthur J. “Art” Hinkle, 64, of Jarratt, passed away on Sunday, June 1, 2025.

Art was a U. S. Army veteran, and for 14 years, was a shrimp boat captain. This led him to a lifelong love of fishing which he was always ready to do. He was a unique individual and loved telling stories and could make you laugh unexpectedly with his sharp wit. He loved his family immensely and had an unbreakable bond with his “baby boy” Buddy, his devoted canine companion. Art loved helping people and had a knack for fixing things. He will be missed.

Art is survived by his wife, Antonia “Toni” Vargas-Hinkle; two stepsons, Harold A. Ruby and Peter Elliott Ruby (Mary); granddaughter, Kera Elizabeth Ruby; grandson, Jack Elliott Ruby; brother, Charles Jack Hinkle (Margaret) and two nephews, Luke Corliss Hinkle (Page) and Charles Jack Hinkle (Amanda).

The family will receive friends 12:30 – 1:30 p.m. on Friday, June 6 at Owen Funeral Home, 303 S. Halifax Rd, Jarratt, Virginia. Graveside services will follow at 2 p.m. at Emporia Cemetery, Brunswick Ave, Emporia, Virginia.
